We don't really know anything about Shakespeare's schooling--it is all supposition. There is good reason to believe that he attended Stratford Grammar School and studied Latin but there are no school records to corroborate this.

If you are English, he went to a public school. If you are American, he went to a private school. It's the same school, the King's New School in Stratford (now called the Edward VI Grammar School).

Why was Shakespeare removed from school at age 13?

We are not sure that he was. Some scholars have speculated that Shakespeare's dad may have been too poor to pay his school fees, and so Shakespeare did not complete grammar school. But we do not have any school records at all for Shakespeare so we cannot confirm any of this. We only assume he went to school at all because he seems to have had familiarity with the curriculum.
