What was the difference between treatment of the Jews during the Holocaust and the Japanese in the American internment camps?

Conditions in some of the American internment camps were certainly harsh, and some guards were petty-minded. However, the intention of the extermination camps and the forced labour camps was to kill the Jews, not to intern them. That is a very big difference.
