The Erie canal allowed goods to be transported from New York harbor to the Hudson river into the canal and the great lake to what was the West United states. Also, crops from the west was able to be sent from the west to New York harbor. This allowed more goods to be exported and imported. Lastly, a lot of cities blosomed around the canal which meant more manurfacturing.
