The affects of the horse saddle were numerous. One, it improved the control of the horse. It also, when the saddle fit, made it more comfortable for the horse when they had a rider. Saddle's today can either make or break a horse so to speak. If you have a well fitting saddle it improves their back muscles and overall performance. If you have an ill-fitting saddle that is either pinching or resting incorrectly on a portion of the back such as the withers, it will destroy back tissue, cause bone damage (especially to young and old horses) and eventually leave you with a lame horse.
