It was really Snow White. Disney started in Kansas City, where, beginning in 1922, he worked for Newman's Laugh-O-Grams(named after the theater they were shown in) making full-length (four to seven minutes) animated shorts.

In 1923, Disney started in Hollywood, and started his first series there: the "Alice" Comedies. They were about a live-action little girl's adventures with animated cartoon characters. Disney produced Alice shorts (about one every three weeks) during 1923-27. After a few dozen, they were replaced in 1927 by Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

The next Big Thing was sound. Disney was the first to utilize sound with his Cartoons, which he did with the third Mickey cartoon, Steamboat Willie (1928). The studio he belonged to added sound tracks to the two earlier Mickeys (Plane Crazyand Galloping Gaucho, both 1928), and re-released them. Soon after, it became common to have sound with cartoons. But by that time, Mickey was already a recognizable figure.

"Skeleton Dance (1929) was the first of the Silly Symphonies, a series that won all of the first six Academy Awards given in the category of animation. It was in a Silly Symphony, Flowers and Trees (1932), that Disney again became the first cartoon producer to embrace new technology - this time, color. "

But Disney was always trying to move on to the next Big Thing In 1937, he came out with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which was the first successful animated feature-length film.
