Shakespeare wrote very little which he intended to be included in any book. His sonnets were for private consumption. His plays were meant to be watched, not read. He only wrote two or three things which he intended to be published, purchased and read. The first of these was his long soft-core poem Venus and Adonis, which he arranged to have published in 1593.
