The use of animals in war dates back thousands of years. Alexander the great used elephants in battle and the Egyptian empire used horses in battle. Attila the Hun is repotted to have had a small fast horse that his men used in battle. Even today the men of the Steppes are considered exceptional horsemen. As long as man has been around and he was able to capture horses they were used for war and to meet the needs of man.
