To curse someone or something is to invoke the wrath of a supreme being against that person or thing. Some curses, start with the invocation of of the supreme being but most often, that invocation is understood. In a typical curse: "May the fleas of a thousand camels infest your armpits." "May" is the first word in that curse.

Although it is unknown who invented the first curse word, Cain would have cursed Abel before killing him, but it's a safe bet that King Henry the viii would definitely have cursed his wives.
