Large scale jet-on-jet combat, helicopters, improved rifles and machine guns.
The first jet plane's name in the US is Bell XP-59. Unfortunately they never went into combat. It was produced by General lectric company.
Look at any of the websites, all show images. The most famous would be the F4 Phantom, the last US jet ace aircraft of the 20th century. And the only combat jet (that saw extensive combat) that was flown by all US branches of service IN COMBAT. The USAF F100 Super Sabre jet is the longest serving "in direct combat" of any US aircraft (1961 to 1971).

The question doesn't address whether or not they were jet or prop aircraft. Presumably it's jet planes: The Korean War was the first clash of jets; US jets and airmen vs USSR built jets.

The Me 262 was built by Messerschmitt A G.
Unless the US Navy flew some combat strikes into Vietnam prior to April 1961; the US Air Force F-100 Super Sabre is the longest serving US combat jet of the Vietnam War. Some sources state that the USAF F-101 Voodoo entered combat first, however, that aircraft didn't arrive in theater until October of 1961. The USAF Super Sabre fought on from April '61 until about March of '71; about 10 years of steady combat. The Super Sabre engaged in the USAF's first dog-fights and conducted most of the 20mm cannon strafing attacks; over 240 Super Sabres were lost in the Vietnam War.
