The RAM that is used for a laptop is not the same as the RAM that you would use in a desktop PC. The RAM that is used for a PC is much too big to be used in a laptop, so a laptop has to use a much smaller RAM card which is called SD-RAM.
In my opinion, anyone who wants a laptop should have to pay for it themselves, especially if they do not need it. So the question remains, do you need it? If you want one, and have enough money, then go for it (with parents permission). If you get bored of using it or drop it out of a window after a week, then you just wasted $500-10000. If you have a different computer you can use, then really you have no need for a laptop. Just weigh it up, do you WANT a laptop or do you NEED a laptop. If the second, then that is a much better reason for getting one that the first.
