The Motorola company produced the first working cell phone with Dr. Martin Cooper in 1974, but it was only sold to the government. It won't be until 1984 that it will be sold to the public. At the time the phone was large, heavy, and expensive to use. There were few cell towers so calls were often dropped and coverage was very poor.
