The first reference to anything written by Shakespeare is by Thomas Greene in 1592, who parodies the line "A tyger's heart wrapp'd in a woman's hide" from Part 3 of Henry VI. Greene does not actually mention the play.

Shakespeare was not credited with writing anything until Venus and Adonis was published in 1593. Quarto editions of his plays started to appear in 1594.
