The league of Nations was formed after world war one with a goal to try and prevent war from ever breaking out again. People wanted the League of Nations to give stability in the world and solve conflicts between nations. It encouraged peaceful negotiations between countries in dispute.

The primary goals of the League of Nations, includes, "Preventing war through collective security, disarmament, and settling international disputes through negotiation and arbitration." Other goals have to do with labor conditions, fair treatment of native inhabitants, human and trafficking, arms trade, global health, prisoners of war, and protection of minorities in Europe.

The League of Nations was supposed to function similarly to the United Nations today; a place where different countries could freely discuss disputes and international issues. It failed in this regard because powerful countries, like the US, were excluded, rules established by the League were ignored by key League Members and aggressive countries were able to invade their neighbors militarily without repercussions.
