fire. Several other inventions are closely matched in importance to the ability to create fire, among these are the development of farming which allowed early man to change life styles from a wandering, food gathering society to a fixed, stationary society. Also the domesticating of animals had a profound effect on the development of the human tribal society.
But of even greater importance than any of the others was the development of a two language speech. For millions of years of a single language which originated from the vocal chords (like all the other animals) to a coding of two languages. This was the supreme invention. The second language came by shaping of the lips, mouth and tongue and then interspersing the "new" language with the old language to create the ability to tell of things happening in the past. Also creating the ability to indicate things happening in the future and well as presently happenings. The new coded language permitted paleolithic man starting 40-50 thousand years ago to gradually climb to ascendancy over all other animal forms. And thus to the beginnings of modern mankind.
