The largest military battle in history would be the Battle of Stalingrad. There were over a million men on both sides at one time. With death rates and replacements several millions would be involved in the total battle.

Casualties were approximately 850 000 for the Nazi troops, Soviets suffered approximately 1 150 000 casualties. The Germans lost 900 aircraft, 500 tanks, and 6000 artillery pieces. The Soviets lost 4000 tanks, 15 000 artillery pieces and 2 700 aircraft.
