Their last single was "Under Attack". And was released in the November of 1982. It didn't receive massive popularity as it had already been released on "The Singles - the first ten years". Making it only reach number 24 in the British charts, a failure to ABBA's earlier efforts.

In 1983 the members of ABBA decided to 'take a break'. They never recorded after that. Although it was not their intention to disband, the break turned into the permanent end of the group ABBA.

For us fans, we would love to see them perform as a group again but the four members are not interested in any kind of a reunion. They have moved on and are all doing different things now. But we have over a decade of music that we can still enjoy. ABBA, thank you for the music.

That's actually a bit complicated.

  • The last song they recorded together was "The Day Before You Came", recorded August 20, 1982 and released as a single that October. It was a relatively minor hit, reaching only #32 in the UK. It reached #5 in Canada on the adult contemporary chart but did not chart in the US. However in a 2010 poll for a British TV documentary it was named the third most popular ABBA song in the UK.
  • The last song they performed in public before breaking up was on a live British TV show on December 11, 1982. It was "Under Attack".
  • However ABBA has come together a few times since then. Their last public performance was on Jan. 16 1986 when they performed the folk song "Tivedshambo" on a Swedish TV special honouring their late manager (and the song's composer) Stig Anderson.
  • Their absolute last known performance together was in June 1999 when they sang at the 50th birthday party of long-time friend and business partner Gorel Hanser. They performed a traditional Swedish song, "Med En Enkel Tulipan", a capella. Apparently the lucky people who were there that night were very moved to see the four of them singing together again.
