The main problem was: The Titanic could stay afloat indefinitely with two of it's consecutive watertight compartments flooded simultaneously - but no more than that. The iceberg ripped four consecutive compartments open, and the Titanic was doomed at that moment, as the designer, who was on the cruise, admitted to the captain shortly after the collision.
