The Battle of Midway, June 4, 1942, during which the Imperial Japanese Navy lost FOUR aircraft carriers to American dive bombers. It was the turning point of the war; the Japanese were on the defensive for the remainder of the war.

Eerily, Admiral Yamamoto had predicted this result almost perfectly; before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Yamamoto had predicted that if Japan were to attack the United States, the Japanese would have overhwelming success - for six months. After that, American industrial power would swing the advantage to the USA. December 7, 1941 to June 4, 1942; Yamamoto was off by three days.
