There are several things that Grant has had a terrible reputation for during his presidency, and all of them are attributed to his incredible ignorance and the manipulation by his representative party members. He essentially stopped the Civil Rights and Reconstruction projects in the wartorn South, nearly ignored the rise of the KKK, and did practically nothing during the Panic of 1973 caused by Gould and Fisk (a recession), and just let the corrupt whiskey ring go on its business. Even though many of these things he was simply oblivious to, Grant fundamentally failed as the highest administrator of the United States of the America.. Simply put; Acceptable General, but terrible president.
