The Gotha G-1V. The British Handley-Page and Russian Sikorsky bombers were actually heavier than the Gotha series of bombers, but I believe that Germany still had the heaviest of the war; a gigantic bomber called the Staaken.
I have no idea Good thing I showed up then ! The single most destructive aircraft is of course the B29 Enola Gay Superfortress which dropped the atomic bombs on Japan. Whether the Avro Lancaster dropped more bombs, or tonnage then the B17 Flying Fortress is not known to me, but I'll have a shilling on the Lancaster. Jeff, I think you may have won another shilling. In terms of casualties, the Avro Lancaster carried out the most destructive raid of the war on Dresden, doing more damage and causing more casualties than the 509th Enola Gay and Bock's Car in the atomic bombings of Japan. 617 Squadron (The Dam Busters) used Lancasters and skip-bombs to flood the Ruhr Valley, and they later used 12,000 lb Tallboy bombs to sink the battleship Tirpitz. The largest aerial bomb of the war, the 22,000 lb "Grand Slam," could be carried by no other bomber. The B17 Flying Fortress carried only a 3,000 lb bombload, and the B24 Liberator carried a maximum of 8,000 lb. Someone else will have to crunch the numbers. The B29 missions on Japan (conventional and atomic combined) may have been more destructive, but the Lancaster is probably it.
The most powerful bomber of WWII was the B29 Superfortress. The deadliest dive bomber of the second world war was the USNs Dauntless; although the IJNs "Val" dive bomber sank more allied warships than any other axis dive bomber.
The most destructive weapon introduced during World War 2 was the Soviet T-34 tank. There were many other weapons used during this war on part of the allies as well as the Red Army.
The Atomic Bomb which was capable of completely destroy a city was the most powerful bomb in World War 2 and still is now.
I don't know about the modern planes but in the second world war the Lancaster bomber and the spitfire were probably the most destructive planes of there time
