Best Answer

In Indonesia in 2009 a world record was set with 2,496 divers on a single dive.

An optimistic attempt to beat the record was made later in 2009 in Ohio, but only 794 divers attended. However, that did set a record for a freshwater dive.

Is scuba diving a type of science?

The best answer is probably no. Safe scuba diving relies heavily on a knowledge of physics, gas laws and even physiology. Since it generally takes place in the ocean, it often involves marine biology. In that respect scuba is far more reliant on science than most other activities. Generally, though, scuba is a recreational activity for most divers and a vocation for others.

Why are most scuba diving helments brown?

SCUBA means self contained breathing apparatus. Most scuba divers wear neoprene hoods and these come in a variety of colours. I think you are talking about standard dress or hard hat diving where the diver has a big spherical helmet and lead boots. These divers are not SCUBA as they have air pumped from the surface. These helmets look brown because they are made of brass and copper which turns brown when it oxidises. If you polished it up, it would look gold in colour.

What are traditional tattoos for navy divers?

The "traditional" tattoo for U.S. Navy deep sea divers is the age old U.S. Navy Mark V (MOD 1) deep sea diving helmet. The tattoo is normally worn on the lower leg. This helmet is also the the rating badge and warfare device now worn on the left sleeve and upon the chest of U.S. Navy surface supplied aka "Deep Sea" Divers. It is strongly looked down upon for U.S. Navy SCUBA divers to consider wearing this tattoo and most know not to. U.S. Navy SCUBA divers have not completed the same rigorous training as their "Deep Sea Diver" counter parts, and are not authorized to bear the surface supplied diver insignia.

You don't need a licence to go scuba diving, but most people need to undergo formal training before they can scuba dive. Different agencies will take divers at different agencies, but the bigger agencies will usually not train anyone younger than 10 years old. However, some agencies insist that a student be 16 or 17 before learning to dive.
