It was "Stride Toward Freedom," which was released in 1958. On September 20, Dr. King was autographing copies of the book at a New York department store when he was stabbed in the chest with a letter opener by a demented black woman. He survived the attack, although a physician later advised him that he might have died if he had sneezed.
