Pikes Peak
It is named in honor of Zebulon Pike.
Pikes Peak is near Colorado Spring and gets its name from Zebulon Pike (1779-1813), who attempted to climb it in 1806. There are thirty-one mountains in Colorado higher than its 14,110 feet. However the location of Pikes Peak, towering up on the edge of the Great Plains.
Zebulon Pike is remembered as the man who discovered Pikes Peak.
Zebulon Pike attempted to climb the Rocky Mountain peak that would later bear his name- Pikes Peak. he failed, and then he and his group turned south. Unfortunately, they ran into spanish territory and were arrested by some spanish troops.

Denver was founded by the gold prospectors during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush. And the city was given its official name in honor of James William Denver.
