The first Spanish American War Battle was the Battle of Manila Bay between Commodore George Dewey's Asiatic Squadron and the Spanish Philippine Fleet under the command of Admiral Montojo. It was a complete US victory.
Admiral George Dewey's Asiatic Squadron fought the almost perfect Naval battle at Manila Bay on 1 May 1898 as the first action of the Spanish American War. Dewey lost one man to heatstroke or a heart attack, had 9 men wounded and 1 of his cruisers had battle damage. Spain lost 8 ships, 161 killed and 210 men wounded and all shore batteries were silenced.
