Jesus never built a church.

Chritianity is based on the death burial and ressurection of Jesus so it wasn't until after His death burial and resurrection that there were Christians.

The Church of Jesus Christ is another name for Christianity, and was obviously founded by Jesus Christ. There may of course be individual Christian churches with the name "The Church of Jesus Christ", which were probably started by the pastors or parishoners. What is another name for the Mormons?

The official name is: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Some nicknames are: The LDS Church, The Mormons, The Mormon Church, The Church, The True Church There are several small splinter groups that share some common beliefs with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but they are not affiliated with the Church in any way. People who are not familiar with the LDS Church can be confused by the use of the term "Mormon" because there are some denominations that use the name "Mormon" because of their common belief in the Book of Mormon, but they are not members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. These sects include: The Community of Christ (formerly the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints), The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (most commonly known for practicing polygamy), The Church of Christ (Temple Lot), The Church of Jesus Christ, The Rigdonites

Why is it named church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints?

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly known as the "Mormon" church) believe that it was given that name by Jesus Christ in revelation to Joseph Smith. This revelation is now contained in the Doctrine & Covenants section 115. It says "For thus shall my church be called in the last days, even The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." This revelation was given in 1838. For the eight years prior to this that the church was in existence, it had been known as "The Church of Christ." The official name of the Church is very important to most of it's members. The name means that this is the Church of Jesus Christ - it is a Christian Church operated directly by Jesus Christ and founded on His teachings and commandments. It also means that it's members should be living as "Latter-day Saints" or, as literal Saints who are living in the Last Days.

Did the Church of Christ break off from the latter day saints to become just the church of christ?

There are many different denominations and independent churches which call themselves the "Church of Christ". Most of these have never been affiliated in any way with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or Mormonism. The original name of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was the "Church of Christ", however the name was changed in order to distinguish themselves from the many other churches already using this name. Some groups which have broken off of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have returned to the name "Church of Christ", however most of these groups are very small and/or no longer exist. Is there a relationship between the 'Church of Christ' and the 'Mormon church'?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) was originally known as the "Church of Christ" or the "Church of Jesus Christ" in the first couple years of it's existence. In order to avoidbeing confusedwith the many other churches and denominations also calling themselves the Church of Christ, the Mormons changed the official name of their church to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This name change took place in 1838. The modern church/denomination called the Church of Christ is of no relation to the modern church/denomination called the "Mormons" or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

What is the real name of the church that Jesus built?

Reasoning would suggest that the church Jesus established would be named, Jesus Christ. If the Lord did establish a church then it is reasonable to assume that within the thousands of churches and sects that exist in the world today, there will be one called the Church of Jesus Christ. If one is looking for God's church I suggest you investigate the scripture in the New Testament, Ephesians 4:5: "One Lord, one faith, one baptism,". That should put you on the right track, but take with you humility and leave the blinkers behind.

Which churches today are the Churches of Christ?

All churches are the 'churches of Christ' as long as they believe in Jesus Christ, Holy God, Holy Spirit and Christianity. The Catholic Church is the Church of Christ here on earth. The Churches of Christ is also a denomination. Their churches are identified by the name Church of Christ... For example, Stuartville Church of Christ or Plat City Church of Christ.
