While the Romans had no such thing as a taxi service, they did have several means of transportation that were similar. a "vehiculum" was a vehicle in general. a "raeda" or a "petorritum" was a 4 wheeled traveling carriage and a "carpentum" was a small ladies carriage. These vehicles could be rented or the wealthy may even own their own. There were also litters for hire or carrying chairs .
