The Earl of Portland, Richard Weston, who held office 1628 to 1635. Previous to him the incumbents of the post were known as Lord High Admirals. The last First Lord of the Admiralty was the Earl Jellicoe in 1963 - 1964.

Since then the office has had a royal incumbent and therefore known as the Lord High Admiral. At the moment that is HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
