W3Catalogue and Aliweb were the first search engines, both introduced in 1993, but neither exist any longer. Webcrawler was introduced a year later in 1994, but developed quickly into an aggregator, searching the other search engines as well as the web itself. Many of the early service providers (CompuServ [the first internet service provider, launched in 1989], Prodigy, and America OnLine, etc.) had their own search functions.

Apple has no search engine that they created. They do have a browser called Safari. With Safari you can make almost any search engine the default search engine when you search within the Safari address bar. There is a rumor that Apple is going to create their own search engine but as of 2/2014 it is just a rumor.
