Why did great Britain have an issue with Germany?

In WWI, Britain was on a previous arm race with Germany. Germany was on her way to become an industrial nation of fleet and military equal to that of Britain, so Britain was in for: 1. Arm Race and naval pride. 2. Her will to stay on the top of the colonization pyramid and have many colonies, this was a shared goal with Germany and Britain was not willing to share. 3. To "test" the military power (militarism). 4. Alliances that were nailing Britain to help (actually benefited Britain, but the first motivation was to help). 5. Nationalism.

World War 1 could have been avoided?

One way. Had there not been a Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905). The German Kaiser was a 3rd (or so) cousin to the Russian Czar (Tzar). The Kaiser had "goaded" his cousin "Nicky" into fighting Japan; to eliminate Russia from the naval arms race. One less competitor. It was the naval arms race of the late 1890s and early 20th century that led to the Great War (WWI). The only way Germany could take on Britain was by naval power; naval power meant battleships (also alled Dreadnaughts), and he who had the most (powerful) battleships would win (might win). With Russia eliminated, the race was strictly between Germany and Britain. Or...had not Russia lost it's battleships in the war with Japan; Germany & Russia could have teamed up with their Dreadnaughts and defeated Britain's fleets.
