And swords made for martial arts (such as Iaito) can be bought if you are a member of a recognized martial arts school. Antiques are also perfectly legal as are all swords made up until 1954. Modern swords must be handforged and made of traditional materials though. In effect the only swords banned are cheap wall hangers (like those rubbish Triple Sword Sets you could get for like 50 Pounds.
