There wasn't a single hit parade in the US in 1953 - the Billboard chart wasn't created until 1958. In 1953 there were several charts in use, the most relevant was the "Number one in stores" chart which had Vaya con Dios (May God Be with You)by Les Paul and Mary Ford at number 1 in August 1953.
