The name of the spacecraft is, rather anticlimactically, "New Horizons".
The mission control center is responsible for monitoring and controlling spacecraft and satellites during their missions. It tracks the spacecraft's position, health, and performance, and makes any necessary adjustments to ensure the mission's success. Additionally, it serves as the communication hub between the mission crew and the spacecraft.
The spacecraft that was the first to take people to the moon's surface was the Apollo Lunar Module, part of the Apollo spacecraft used during the Apollo missions by NASA. The Lunar Module carried astronauts to and from the lunar surface during the Apollo program in the 1960s and 1970s.
It was called Columbia, the lunar module was called Eagle.
Neil Armstrong was the first person to walk on the moon during the Apollo 11 mission in 1969 because he was the mission commander and NASA had established that the mission commander would be the first to exit the spacecraft. Buzz Aldrin, as the lunar module pilot, followed after Armstrong set foot on the lunar surface.
The Apollo spacecraft had two parts, the Command Module and the Lunar Module. The Lunar Module was designed to land on the moon, and to take off to lunar orbit, to a rendez-vous with the Command Module. So it was composed by two parts: the lander, and the ascender. The lander served as a base to the lauching of the ascender.
The name of the 1975 joint mission was the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project (ASTP). It involved the docking of an American Apollo spacecraft with a Soviet Soyuz spacecraft in space, symbolizing a new era of cooperation between the two countries during the Cold War.
Michael Collins stayed in the spacecraft while Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin descended to the surface of the Moon during the Apollo 11 mission. He orbited the Moon alone in the command module, Columbia.
Neil Armstrong traveled to the moon aboard the Apollo 11 spacecraft. He and his fellow astronauts, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins, journeyed to the moon in July 1969 and successfully landed the lunar module, Eagle, on the surface. Armstrong famously became the first person to walk on the moon during this mission.
The Lunar Modules were spacecraft designed to land astronauts on the moon during NASA's Apollo program. They were left on the moon's surface after each mission, so they are still there today, with no plans for retrieval.
Mapping a planet's surface is important before planning a lander mission because it helps identify potential hazards, landing sites, and scientific targets. It allows mission planners to make informed decisions about where to land the spacecraft safely and where to conduct scientific studies. Mapping also provides essential data for navigation and guidance during the mission.
