Best Answer

Indoctrinating young minds for the purpose of instilling an inherent nationalistic orientation in the proceeding generations.

-----

According to its author, Christian Socialist and Baptist minister Francis Bellamy, the original intent of the pledge was to help protect immigrants and people who were insufficiently patriotic from subversion and radicalism. To Theodore Roosevelt, however, it was intended to induce fervent patriotism.
