To prevent it from happening. Seriously, that was the reason.
To get ready for future wars...
Nuclear Tipping Point was created in 2010.
A large enough body from space (comet, asteroid, meteor) that did not break up when coming through the Earth's atmosphere; a large sun flare or coronal blast; and a nuclear weapon detonation all have the ability to destroy entire cities and impair electronic communication systems.
AW bombs, or atomic weapons, refer to explosive devices that derive their destructive power from nuclear reactions, either fission (splitting atomic nuclei) or fusion (combining atomic nuclei). They were developed during World War II, with the first successful tests occurring in 1945. The use of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki marked a significant turning point in warfare, leading to widespread devastation and loss of life, as well as ushering in the nuclear age. Their existence has since prompted ongoing debates about ethics, deterrence, and global security.
The answer can certainly be more complicated and detailed, but simply- the reaction in a nuclear power point is designed to be a "slow" controlled reaction that can be monitored and "shut down", with a nuclear power point having multiple safeguards. To the contrary, a nuclear weapon's reaction is designed to be the opposite- violent and uncontrollable so that once detonation has begun, the results are catastrophic.
The amount of heat produced by a nuclear bomb varies depending on the size of the bomb. A typical nuclear bomb can release millions to billions of degrees of heat within milliseconds, resulting in temperatures hotter than the surface of the sun at the point of detonation.
Nuclear energy is released as heat in the fuel of a nuclear reactor, but only when the reactor has been brought to criticality and the chain reaction started. At that point the heat must be used, it can't be stored and used later. Before criticality is established, the reactor is shutdown and producing no nuclear heat from fission, so you could regard it as having potential nuclear energy in that state
During World War 2, we had invented Nuclear arms. The main point was to threaten people who were trying to kill us. We only had two atomic bombs when we threatened Japan, but they did not know that so, after we bombed Hiroshima, they did not know if we had one more left or a thousand. Now that Iran is in the process of making a nuclear bomb, we are all scared that they could use it in a horrifying way. In the Cold War, we did not fight any battles, but we used our nuclear weapons to threaten Russia. As of today, we have nuclear arms, for defense, and we are the only ones who have used a nuclear weapon on Another Country.
Aside from the fact that the bombs were vastly expensive, and that only a very few had been manufactured at that time, there would have been no point in dropping more than one, as one bomb was enough to destroy a whole city.
A nuclear power plant is a thermal power station. The heat source is nuclear reactor. Its main point is to produce electricity.
At this point in time (2012) Iran is believed to have no nuclear weapons capability at all. However this could end at any time (at which point Iran would be nuclear weapons capable).
