Caiaphas was both the High Priest and president of the Sanhedrin. Josephus gives some detail of his term in office. he was installed by Rome in the year 18 and eventually deposed by Rome. This makes it clear that, although he was dedicated to preserving the institution of the Temple and sacrificial system, he was entirely beholden to Roman authority -- the situation is not unlike that of Chinese Catholics today, where the Chinese Government insists on control of the leadership in the Chinese Church.
After Jesus was taken prisoner by the temple guards and chief priests and was being tried by them Peter denied Our Lord three times.

To be humbol in the name of JESUS
The Romans did not view Jesus as a political threat. It was the Jewish priests who saw Jesus as a threat. When they presented charges of sedition against Jesus to the Roman governor he did not believe these charges and thought that he was innocent. He tried to save Jesus, but was forced to sentence him to death by the crowd.

Judas lead the Jews and priests to arrest Jesus.

The Chief Priests and Elders took Jesus to Pontius Pilate. Pontius Pilate was the Roman official who governed Palestine.
There were many 'priests' around in that time... all from the tribe of Levi (as commanded in the Old testament). None of these, including the chief priests, are mentioned by name in the Gospel accoun t of the trials. However, the HIGH priest - the chief of all the priests, was mentioned. He was Caiaphas (pronounced Kigh - a - Fass) and it was he who led the Jewish trial against Jesus.
Ultimately, the Romans. The High Priests wanted him dead, but the High Priests did not have more say in the situation than the Roman procurator (Pilate) did. Pilate, of course, tried to "wash his hands" of the whole thing, but that does not change the fact that Pilate could have stopped it - he didn't.
in the bible, they are mainly the pharisees and priests
You must have Him confused with Catholic priests. Jesus led a completely sinless life.
