When New Jersey was a colony, Christianity was the dominant religion, which is the case to this day. Today, Catholics make up the largest religious demographic in the state.
I'm pretty sure that the official religion was Anglicanism, but there were a number of different religious sects existing in New Jersey at different times before the Revolution. For example, as New Jersey was originally settled by the Dutch, there were a number of "Dutch Reformed" followers. Also, there were many Congregationalists (aka Puritans) who had migrated there from New England.
