It all depended on who you asked. Caesar had a reputation as a womanizer among all classes of people. Among the equestrians and poor people and about half of the aristocrats, he was a hero, and a reformer. However, there were powerful men in the senate who resisted his reforms basically because they, themselves, stood to loose. To these men, called the Optimates, Caesar was made out to be a danger to the Republic.
