In 1967 the CIA released a report on the effects of Operation Rolling Thunder. This report concerned the increased bombing of North Vietnam. Here are some significant results: Results here refer to 1965 compared to 1966.1. Sorties against the North rose from 55,000 in 1965 to 148,000 in 1966;2. Bomb tonnage rose from 55,000 to 128,000;3. Aircraft lost rose from 171 to 318; and4. Operational costs rose from $460 million to $1.2 billion. Two major outcomes were agreed upon. One was that the pentagon and the CIA agreed the increase in bombing produced the same results in 1966 as did 1965. Less well agreed upon was that the increased bombing killed any so-called peace feelers that the North was considering.
