The noble was a man who kept the estates and manors for a king. He got these in return for his loyalty to the king. Since Europe was a patchwork of holdings this was very important for the king and the noble. The noble pledged his men to fight for the king when needed. Many nobles were also knights and in war they fought as a knight. To be a knight was very expensive. A suit of armor, in today's standards, would cost the same as a 5 bedroom house today. They also had a horse that was trained for battle and not just for riding around on. The noble's role was to serve the king, provide protection to the king, pay taxes from his estates, and to provide food to the king.

I've read that Nobles are the second in rank (under the king) and they own a large area that they got from the king. For a return, the nobles have to promise him to serve him as if they are his servants. They need to come with an army when the king needs it, they have to give a lot of the taxes to the king. Beause, the king is still higher in rank and can take the Nobles' rank back at every time.

This is all part of the feudal system, you might want to search for that as well, it is kind of this:

Kings

Nobles

Knights

Free men

Peasants (half free people) and Slaves.

I hope this answer helped you!

Nobles are at the top of the feudal tree. They control areas of territory for a King or other higher noble. They are expected to provide justice and security for the people under their control. The nobles (at least the higher tiers) advice the Crown and are given jobs within the state. And last but not least, they had to provide the king with a fighting force in case of war by making themselves available and bringing along - at their own cost - a designated number of well-equipped and trained soldiers.

The role of a noble in the dark/middle ages to a lord was to raise an army if needed in war times. The lord in turn was given a manor to reside over. The noble gave serfs lodging and food in return for farming. The serfs could not leave the manor unless given permission.

Noble’s had many roles in the medieval period but their main roles were; collecting taxes from people (peasants) who lived on their manor, to run manor courts for the peasants that broke the rules e.g. if a peasant didn’t pay their fee (tax), protecting whom lived on the manor, fighting in wars and providing soldiers to fight in wars. In return the rulers (kings and queens) gave them a fief (a ruler giving a great deal of manor (land), control over people who lived on the manor and great deal of power). Nobles had to support the king by coming to fight with a number of supporters (knights).they would hire knights to be their supporters. knights would come to fight when it was needed .In return the nobles provided them with their needs. The nobles owned everything on the manor including the peasant that worked on the manor .lords who owned a large manor and had a great deal of power were called “the stewards’. The stewards hired bailiffs to be their representative. Bailiff and peasants would decide on a reeve, wealthy peasant to supervise them and keep account of all the crops .the peasants would farm the land and In return the nobles would let the peasants live on the manor and use the facilities on the manor but with an exception that the peasants would obey the manors rules. If a peasant didn’t obey the manors rules they would be sent to a manors court where they would be decided on a punishment sometimes even sentenced to death .. Nobles in the medieval period were powerful and had control over people because they were wealthy however in the present time nobles are people who just achieve great things in life e.g. sir Elton John is a noble because he has achieved great heights in the music industry, people respect him because he is a great singer.
