The Barbie doll was designed at Mattel's headquarters in Los Angeles. The doll was introduced to the public at Toy Fair in New York City in March 1959, at which time toy buyers could place orders for her. Mattel advertised the doll on "The Mickey Mouse Club" on ABC during the summer and fall of 1959. The doll was for sale across the United States at that time. In other words, she wasn't sold in any one particular state first; rather, she was placed in stores across the country.

I am Skippercollector and I have been collecting Barbie dolls since the early 1980s. I have Barbie dolls that were foreign-market dolls (that is, they weren't sold in the United States but were exclusive to other countries) from the following nations: Australia Brazil Canada France Germany Great Britain India Japan Mexico the Phillipines I have also seen pictures of Barbie dolls from Argentina, China, Korea, Peru and Singapore, but, alas, I don't own any. I also own a bootleg Barbie doll (that is, it was a cheap fashion doll sold in a copied Barbie doll box) from Egypt.
