Before coming under British colonial rule as part of Pennsylvania, Delaware had Dutch and Swedish settlements.
European Quakers many from earlier New Jersey and Delaware settlements becaus of the explicit promise of religious refuge.
Mostly, Pennsylvania in 1682 was still thick wilderness. There were no roads, except in the few major settlements. Roads that did exist were nothing but dirt tracks that turned to mud with every rain.
The middle colonies of colonial America, which included New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware, were primarily settled by the Dutch, Swedes, and English. The Dutch established New Amsterdam, which later became New York, while the Swedes founded settlements like New Sweden along the Delaware River. The English eventually took control of these territories and expanded settlements throughout the region, attracting a diverse population, including Quakers in Pennsylvania. This mix of cultural influences contributed to the unique character of the middle colonies.
Sweden didn't own any states, as such. But, the Swedish settlements in the new world were located in what is now New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware.
