99% of the people in Egypt were poor, and their purpose in life was to support the country. The 1% of Egypt had all of the power. At the top of society was the Pharaoh. It was thought that he was the gods representative on earth, and therefore himself a demigod. Also in the one percent were military leaders, land lords, government officials, and priests.
