Shock and Awe
Basically, Defend the Capitol
The souths plan to win the war was to repel the attacks instead of invading the North.
The military strategy that won the civil war is total war which was concentrated on the South's economy. Burning cities, destroying farms or anything that aided the enemy's war effort as well as the North's far superior industrial base led to the South's defeat.
It was Called The Anaconda Plan
To starve the south of resources to the point of surrender.
They assumed they could exchange their cotton for war supplies from abroad.
The main southern strategy was to defeat the attacking Union forces and force the northern states to negotiate.Later in the war, a slightly altered strategy was to take a major northern city (Washington, Baltimore, or even Philadelphia) to force the north to negotiate terms favorable to the south. This led to the Battle of Gettysburg. After the losses at Gettysburg and Vicksburg, the south had no real strategy for victory. The strategy seems to have turned to inflicting as much cost on the Yankees as possible.
