However the Tapestry doesn't say what the oath is and moreover doesn't explain why Harold is in Normandy. Thus deeming the evidence unclear and unreliable. William of Poitiers, the chief Norman writer, wrote about the events of the oath also in 1070's, despite even being present. This again is likely to have been created to justify the Norman invasion.
