Where did nuclear weapons come from?

people designed and built them, like any other machine

What did other countries think of America after the atomic bombings?

They think Americans are hypocrites because north Korea wants nuclear weapons but we don't want them to have it because we are afraid they will attack us or others but America is the only nation that has nuclear weapons (but they are not planning on using them) so we are respected but alot of people do not like America.

What where the political causes of the cold war?

Communism verses non-communists. But, communists and non-communists EXISTED before the cold war. The Atomic Age created the cold war. If no nuclear weapons existed, there would have been no cold war. There would probably have been a hot one. World War 3 if the the communists wished to start one. But without atomic weapons, it would have been a world war fought looking very much like the Korean War did; jets against jets, etc.

When were the first nuclear weapons introduced to the Japanese?

A strange way to describe it - 'introduced'. 'I would like you to meet a nuclear weapon......' The bombs were dropped on civilian cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki, without any warning, in August 1945.

What is the difference between deterrence by denial and deterrence by punishment?

Fred Korkisch This is a rather artificial question, because in the official literature the term "deterrence by denial" was never used, asked, nor answered, nor mentioned. The post-nuclear literature tried to invent and imagined a number of terms and phrases that were never used by the people who wrote about nuclear war planning and doctrine. Deterrence was either used in relation to * Gradual Deterrence (see: The gradual use of nuclear weapons, or a gradual use of force, like the escalation President Johnson used against North Vietnam etc.); * Minimum Deterrence (see: The threat to use force, including nuclear weapons on a limited scale, or the minimum number of strategic weapons which provides a credible deterrence; see SALT, START); * Finite Deterrence (see: The nuclear capabilties which will survive any enemy attack, available for a devastating counterstrike, like SLBM-weapons on submarines; * Deterrence by Punishment (this is a rather juridical term, used after WW II, to explain the legal rightfulness of the bombardments of German and Japanese cities, as a justified "punishment" for the aggressions of both states, used later on for the possible use of nuclear weapons as a retaliatorial strike. To explain "Deterrence by Denial" one can follow the logic of protection of nuclear delivery systems by various measures, like dispersal of bombers, missiles in silos, SLBM-submarines etc.

Why are nuclear weapons a good thing?

Nuclear weapons are a good thing for the United States because they prevent others from using nuclear weapons on the US. In general, the world would probably be a better place without nuclear weapons if it weren't for the fact that they lead to research in all fields of Nuclear Engineering, like Nuclear Power plants and Nuclear Physics. Since nuclear weapons already exist in the world, for the US to get rid of their nuclear weapons would be unwise. Countries that dislike nuclear weapons or even radical terrorist cells and organizations would now have no reason not to launch a nuclear warhead at the US since no retaliation would occur. The strategy of nuclear weapons preventing others from using them against the US is called the Deterrent Strategy.

What safety is there of having a nuclear weapon?

A nuclear weapon is used to prevent being threatened by other nuclear countries. Say, for example, France got rid of all of it's nuclear weapons, tiny countries that had a nuclear weapon would be able to bully them into accepting bad deals or presurring them into not reacting when things happen. Most countries in the world would probably like to dispose of their nuclear weapons but they can not due to the fact of little countries with problems that will keep them would be able to threaten them and hold the world by it's throat.
