People walked, rode a horse, or took a boat. Travel was very hard then and very dangerous so not many people would travel very far from home. If you wanted to go 30 miles by horse that would take you at least 3 days because you could only do 10 miles a day on a horse. A round trip would take at least 6 days of travel and this doesn't count any business you have, so a trip for just 30 miles could take 2 weeks.

By boat,(mostly used by the wealthy), would leave for long durations (3 weeks to 2 months) on long journeys. Mostly merchants used boats, and they used it so they can bring all their supplies so they can sell and bring back an income

But in contrast, there were big population movements in the Middle Ages, e.g. Vikings, Mongols under Jenghis Khan.

Mainly by foot, but were special horses bred for travel. They were a small horse with short legs and had a gait that allowed them to move very fast over uneven and rough terrain. Boats and ships were also used.

They would be little more than narrow tracks. Dusty in summer, muddy in winter, and deeply rutted if used by horse drawn carts.
