The first Motte and Bailey Castle was built at Mont Glonme on the River Loire in France in 990 - so the Normans were used to using the castle to dominate their tenants under the feudal system. The Normans also brought feudalism to England. Prior to the Norman invasion in 1066 led by William the Conqueror there were hardly any castles in England and the ones that did exist were built by Norman lords who were friends of King Edward the Confessor.
Motte and bailey castles were primarily built in the 10th and 11th centuries, before the widespread use of cannons in warfare. These fortifications were designed to withstand siege tactics of the time, such as battering rams and siege towers. Cannons became prominent in military use during the late medieval period, particularly in the 14th century, which is after the peak of motte and bailey designs. Therefore, while cannons were used against castles later on, they would not have been employed against motte and bailey castles during their initial period of use.

Motte and Bailey castles were first built of wood but, as they evolved they changed into being made of stone. This was because the wooden version burnt down easily and was easily destroyed as wood rotted quickly. The stone castles were then called square keep castles. There was also castles called stone keeps
Motte and Bailey castles were attacked by arrows. Not just any arrows, arrows that were lit at the ends to burn down the castles.
the tunnels were used for storing food because it was cool and as an escape route.I have never been heard of them being used as a way to set the castles on fire but i would have been motte and bailey castle because they were made of wood.
Motte and bailey castles typically did not have glass windows. During the time they were built, which was primarily in the 10th to 13th centuries, glass was a luxury item not commonly used in fortifications. Instead, these castles often featured openings or wooden shutters for light and ventilation. As architectural styles evolved, later stone castles began incorporating glass windows.
