Technically, they are both pretty important (that's why they're in The Bible to begin with.) I like the New Testament better because the books Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are about the gospel.

It is not a case of one being more important then the other.

The Old Testament is the original religious scripture of the Jews The new testament a much more modern book was put together about 350 years after the death of Christ and claims to be a continuation of the old testament most of the rules and morals from the old testament carry on into the Cristian teachings. the same goes for the Muslim religion it however also uses part of the new testament.

So I would say the whole lot is built up on the original old testament.

While most Christians will try to debate this: both testaments are the supposed absolute word of God. The reason people tend to discredit the Old testament is because in it there are a lot of nasty and vile things that God carries out. However, most use bits and pieces of it to justify their agendas as well; such as the anti-gay Christians will quote the only line against gays in the Bible, but it is in the section they claim "does not matter."

The Old Testament (Old Covenant) was written first and was written for/about the Jewish people. The New Testament (New Covenant) was written later when the Messiah, Jesus Christ was born to the virgin Mary and the New Covenant was given but not accepted by the Jews and so was turned over to the Gentiles for a period of time. Some time in the future the Jewish people will accept the Messiah and the New Covenant.

BOTH are true.

The Old Testament describes "Laws" and God's absolute power--and his wrath!

The New Testament describes a constant presence of forgiveness and the way to redemption through Jesus Christ.

In a way, you could think of The Bible as a story saga...a long Book 1 (Old) and a long Book 2 (New). Or a "part 1" of God's interactions with people and their problems when they disobeyed God, and a "part 2" of his Son's interactions with people and showing them a more loving God. The Bible could also be thought of as a "trilogy" of sorts, given that Revelation tells us a story, too, in a much more condensed version compared to the first 2 sections, but it leaves us guessing a lot about what exactlywill happen in that part of time. That part of the trilogy has caused many historians and religious leaders to devote their lives trying to interpret it. But God is a creative author---he left us to ponder and debate exactly what he meant through the human writer's words. And, he left so much unexplained in Part 1 and Part 2, that people keep going back to re-read it and try to unravel the clues.

A great "literary" work!
