Do you have to download software for R4DS?
The official R4DS comes with a CD with everything you need on it. Unofficial ones do not come with a CD, so you will need to find out which website you need to go to for the downloads. You can check the website from any packaging your R4DS came with.

== First you need to install firmware onto your MicroSD Card. If you have the official R4DS, this comes in a CD. If not, you will need to go to the manufacturer's website to download their custom firmware. Usually you just copy a "_DS_MENU.dat" file and a folder to the root of your MicroSD Card.

You have to go to their website r4ds and go onto downloads then you select the kernel/software you would like to download. It should download as a .rar or .zip . You then extract the folder and copy it onto the ROOT of your SD card, so if the folder is called English, you would open that and then copy the folders/files onto the ROOT of you SD card.
Say if you download Pokemon pearl onto your r4ds and you also have a ds action replay could you use it?
The R4DS already has action replay built into it so you can use AR codes without the need of an Action Replay chip.

You cant, R4ds doesnt supply ds download play. You just need to take the r4ds out of the slot and go into ds download play manually.

What is a r4ds?
R4DS is a device that will plug into a Nintendo DS system like a regular video game. The difference is that you can load any game you downloaded onto the R4DS to play like a real game. There are some additional features like playing music/movies and reading eBooks too.
How do you reformat an R4ds?
You can go to the official R4DS site and download their latest version, which should be v1.18.
