Artemis had installed a camera that could move just as fast as the fairies when they're shielding, so he knew they were coming. Then, he gave Butler a modified version of Holly's helmet so that he could see the shielded fairies when he went the stop them. The fairies weren't expecting this and Butler, also being a large man, got the upper hand putting all but Grub, out of commission.
